080708: Graceland

Took the obligatory tour of Graceland this morning. As only about 1.5 miles from the hotel. We chose the "Platinum" package at roughly $25/person, opted out of the tour guide and commemorative backstage pass for the extra $20 charge the VIP tour costs ( would end up on the garage sale pile anyway - no hate mail from Elvis purists please, you know I'm right ). I was pleasantly surprised at the Elvis Estate. Lot of history here and a ton of memorabilia you won't see anywhere else. Even if you aren't an Elvis fan per se,

080608: Memphis, hello Elvis!

Made it into Memphis tonight about 5:30pm, checked in at, wait for it.....wait for it......Best Western of all places! Seriously though, we have had good luck with them in this trip, much better than at the Ramada Inn in Page!

Decided to drive down Elvis Presley Blvd and have dinner at Marlowe's.

You have to try the deep fried dill pickles if you go here, delicious! We tried a variety of items on the menu, brisquit, full slab of ribs, rib eye steak, and a few more things, all were very delicious. The ribs were voted best in the state and I'd have to agree, they melted in your mouth. And for desert, the pecan pie with ice cream was huge and took 4 of us to eat it. And of course it was decorated with all the Elvis memorabilia you can imagine, and it was featured on the Food Network Show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives".

Then it was off to the Walgreens to get more cold medicine for everyone and back to the hotel to rest up for the big Graceland Tour tomorrow.
