Ok so we have all these grand plans today, zoo, aquarium, insectarium, World War II museum and then casino for mom and dad. We start the day off by going to the Cafe Du Monde for some coffee (very strong coffee at that) and some Beignets, which are these puffy pastries coated in powdered sugar, very delicious.
We leave from here to drop Jennifer and the kids off at the zoo, then I'm going to drop off mom, dad and LJ at he World War II museum. After that I park the car and walk down to meet up with Jennifer and the kids.
The only flaw in this plan was the fact that we didn't READ THE MATERIALS! None of this stuff is open on Mondays so I pick everyone up in reverse order and we decide to go back to the hotel and see if we can arrange one of those swamp boat tours. Thankfully we were just in time to catch the shuttle for this so the day wasn't a total loss.
Bus picked us up around 11am, took us through some of the areas damaged in Hurricane Katrina in 2005 that still haven't been repaired and doesn't look like it is going to be rebuilt anytime soon.
We saw several alligators on the tour, lizards, turtles and other flora and fauna. Our tour boat captain had names for all of them.
After the tour back to the hotel and we walked to The Gumbo Shop to get lunch. Had a variety of gumbo, all very good and reasonably priced. About this time I was feeling under the weather, fighting off this cold so I decided to go back to the hotel and rest while everyone else did a walkabout of the French Quarter.
My time in bed continued into the next day and am just now feeling human as I write this. Today they all visited the zoo and aquarium and other museums as well as the casino while i stayed in bed. Some fun!! Tomorrow we pack up and leave New Orleans for Memphis, TN around 8 or 9 and by this time mom, Jennifer and LJ are all feeling under the weather so this should be an interesting leg of the trip.
